Une terre vaste et féconde, confiée par Dieu.
Au commencement, il n’y avait ni chaînes ni domination.
Il y avait une liberté originelle,
née des fleuves éternels,
de la terre rouge,
et de la mémoire des ancêtres.
Et au commencement, il n’y avait pas seulement un territoire.
Il y avait un rêve.
Le rêve d’une nation grande et fière,
d’une civilisation debout,
d’une puissance continentale,
d’un phare pour les générations noires du monde entier.
Au commencement, il y avait la noblesse.
Des royaumes droits, des peuples dignes, des rois puissants,
des hommes libres, des femmes fières.
Et au commencement, il y avait un rêve.
Un rêve de grandeur, de dignité, de liberté.
Un rêve de justice, de vérité, de fraternité.
Ce rêve est encore vivant.

A vast and fertile land, entrusted by God.
In the beginning, there were no chains, no domination.
There was an original freedom,
born of eternal rivers,
of red earth,
and the memory of ancestors.
And in the beginning, there was not only a territory.
There was a dream.
The dream of a great and proud nation,
of a civilization standing tall,
of a continental power,
a beacon for Black generations across the world.
In the beginning, there was nobility.
Righteous kingdoms, dignified peoples, powerful kings,
free men, proud women.
And in the beginning, there was a dream.
A dream of greatness, dignity, freedom.
A dream of justice, truth, fraternity.
That dream is still alive.
